CEO and Superintendent
Lesley Esters Redwine is the Chief Executive Officer of New Urban Learning and Superintendent of University YES Academy the charter management organization that manages the University Yes Academy schools in Detroit. Lesley Esters Redwine is the Chief Executive Officer and Superintendent of New Urban Learning, a charter management organization in Detroit. Prior to joining New Urban Learning, in 2005 Lesley joined Achievement First, also a charter management organization, operating 20 schools in NY and CT. As Vice President of External Relations, Lesley was a valued senior leader and visible spokesperson for the organization, managing new school and site development, authorizer relations and compliance, student admissions, governance, legislative relations and parent advocacy for Achievement First’s Brooklyn geography. Previously, Lesley served as president and CEO of the New York Chapter of the Black Alliance for Educational Options. Prior to BAEO, Lesley served as a project director at Agenda for Children Tomorrow (ACT), a multi-million dollar community-collaborative project in the South Bronx. In 2000, Lesley was selected to the National Urban Fellows where she served as special assistant to a member of the former New York City Board of Education. She has also served as a policy analyst at The After School Corporation and an adjunct professor in nonprofit management at City College in New York City. Lesley is also an attorney, and formerly worked at Lewis & Munday, P.C. and in a private criminal defense practice. Lesley earned her B.A. from University of Michigan; J.D. from University of Detroit Mercy; and M.P.A. from Baruch College’s School of Public Affairs.
Devin Fletcher is the Managing Director of Finance and Strategy at New Urban Learning. He supports the financial strategy, management and operations of the University Yes Academy High Schools. Devin is a Broad Resident and recently worked on the Finance team at Walmart. Devin earned a BS in Biochemistry, BBA in Finance, and MBA in Accounting and Finance from the University of Texas at Austin.
Ebony Pope is the Assistant to Lesley Redwine, the CEO of New Urban Learning. Prior to joining New Urban Learning, Ebony worked at Google as an Account Strategist for Online Sales. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Howard University.
Michelle Ormsby is the Manager of Special Projects and supports Mrs. Redwine with the operation of existing schools and the founding of new schools under New Urban Learning. Before joining New Urban Learning, Michelle taught 11th grade World History in Detroit Public Schools as a Teach For America corps member. Michelle earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Florida.
Steve Kay is the Manager of Information Technology at New Urban Learning. He is responsible for building and maintaining the infrastructure and networks used by the charter management organization and respective schools. Steve attended Eastern Michigan University and has certifications in Microsoft and VMWare.
Tarrieck Rideaux is currently launching UYA HS, and has served many roles at New Urban Learning since 2010. Prior to New Urban Learning, Tarrieck worked at YES Prep Public Schools in Houston as the School Director/Director of Curriculum in 2007. During this time, he successfully planned, opened, and operated the 6th YES Prep campus. Dr. Rideaux was born in Michigan and earned his doctorate from Sam Houston State University and his Bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University.
